Shortly after the end of 2013 I announced a fun partnership between Studio DIY and Balloon Time. We launched with a big New Year’s Eve celebration, and over the coming months I’ll be sharing more balloon projects here and on their site. For this project I revisited one of the very first tutorials I ever posted on the blog: conversation heart balloons. I refined the technique a lot since that early post, and these updated conversation-heart Mylar balloons are so easy to make — the letter stickers do most of the work. The result is high-impact and totally gift-worthy for Valentine’s Day.

Apologies for the many photos — I couldn’t narrow them down! Balloons are irresistible.

Supplies:
Mylar heart balloons — available from online balloon suppliers or many local party stores.
Balloon Time helium tank.
Twine or string.
2″ red vinyl letter stickers (office supply stores carry these).
Inflate your Mylar heart balloons with a helium tank and secure a string or ribbon to the balloon’s valve. Mylar balloons are self-sealing, so you only need to tie the string; you don’t have to knot the balloon itself. Arrange the vinyl letter stickers on the balloon to spell your messages. If a letter is slightly misplaced you can peel it off carefully and reposition it — they restick well. Note: to keep the balloons floating and looking their best, avoid placing more than eight letters on a single balloon; most classic conversation-heart phrases fit easily within that limit.

That’s it — done! Aren’t they fun?

A fun variation: place a bunch of these balloons in a large gift box and create a conversation-heart balloon surprise. It’s a simple, romantic gesture that makes a memorable presentation.

Do you have favorite conversation-heart sayings? I love the classics like “Be Mine” and “Wink Wink.” Modern bags sometimes include amusing phrases like “Tweet Me” or “Let’s Read,” which always makes me smile.
If you’d rather skip the DIY, you can purchase prepared conversation heart balloons from the Studio DIY shop.
