Lucky Poppers DIY: Make Festive Surprise Party Poppers

It’s time for another confetti popper DIY—and these are lucky ones. Filled with tiny four-leaf clovers and bits of gold, they’re a festive twist on the classic confetti popper. Instead of pinching someone who isn’t wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day, try cracking one of these overhead for a playful dash of Irish luck.

These turn out even better than they look in the photos—trust me, the surprise is worth it.

Materials

Toilet paper tubes
Tissue paper or lightweight crepe paper (use lightweight; heavy crepe won’t tear easily when popping)
Confetti (see notes below for making your own)
Four-leaf clovers (pre-made from a craft store or punched from paper)
Twine, sequin trim, or ribbon
Double-stick tape
Scissors

Make your own confetti: If you don’t want to buy confetti, you can cut fringe from a foil or paper fringe curtain to create instant confetti. Mix in the paper four-leaf clovers for extra lucky charm.

Assembly

1. Cut each toilet paper tube in half so the popper will break apart easily when used. Cut a piece of tissue or lightweight crepe paper about 10 inches long and wide enough to wrap around the tube.

2. Place double-stick tape on each half of the tube. Put the two halves next to each other as if they were uncut, then begin rolling the paper around the tube so the tape holds the paper in place.

3. Tape the outer edge of the paper so you have a long, finished tube. Pinch and twist one end of the excess paper tightly against the tube and tie it securely with twine or ribbon.

4. Fill the open end with your confetti mix and add some four-leaf clovers. Don’t overfill—leave a little room so the tube can split easily.

5. Twist and tie the remaining end. Add sequin trim or ribbon to hide the twine and give the popper a festive finish.

How to use them: Hand these out at a party or in the office and tell people to break one over a friend’s head for good luck. They’re easy to pop—hold the tube firmly and give a quick twist to split the tube and shower confetti.
