Happy post–Super Bowl Monday! Whether you watched the game or just enjoyed the commercials, it’s officially time to think about Valentine’s Day. All week long I’ll be sharing easy DIY projects—sometimes more than one a day—and today’s craft is a glittery twist on a classic: wooden block heart puzzles. These make delightful Valentines for friends or kids who love a little sparkle. They take some time, but the result is playful and handmade—perfect for gifting.

Supplies you’ll need:
– Wooden blocks (mine were about 1.5″—you can find similar sizes at craft stores)
– Craft paint
– Mod Podge or another decoupage glue/sealer
– Glitter in multiple colors
– A heart template sized to cover the top of four blocks when arranged together
– Pencil
– Paint brushes
– Muslin bag (optional, for packaging)
Step 1: Paint the blocks in your chosen base color(s). Gold is a fun option, but use whatever you like. Let the paint dry completely.
Step 2: Arrange four blocks in a square and place your heart template centered on top. Lightly trace the heart outline onto each block with a pencil so the shape spans all four pieces when they’re aligned.

Step 3: Working one block and one color at a time, apply Mod Podge inside the traced area and sprinkle on glitter. Tap or shake off the excess glitter and set the block aside to dry. Using one color per heart keeps the colors from mixing and keeps the design crisp.

Step 4: Once the glitter is set, seal it by applying another thin layer of Mod Podge over only the glittered area. Allow it to dry thoroughly. Repeat the tracing, gluing, glittering, and sealing process for the remaining faces of the blocks. Flip the blocks to a blank side, realign your template, and continue. You can create a repeating pattern across sides or mix colors and placements for a more eclectic look.

Step 5: When all sides are finished and sealed, package your blocks in a small muslin bag. Add a short note encouraging the recipient to assemble the blocks to reveal the glitter heart—these are playful, tactile Valentines that double as a tiny keepsake.

These glitter block puzzles are charming and fun for any age. They’re a great handmade alternative to store-bought cards and make for a memorable, interactive Valentine.
