This is the final post of Donut Week before the big giveaway tomorrow, and I wanted to give some attention to classic, real donuts. For this batch I skipped the sprinkles and chose a favorite finish instead: stripes. These striped donuts are playful and bright—perfect for summer or any time you want to add a little pattern to your sweets.

Supplies:
– Donuts (I used store-bought plain cake donuts, but homemade works great)
– Powdered sugar
– Milk
– Extract (vanilla, almond, or lemon work well)
– Food coloring
– Piping bag or a plastic sandwich bag with a small corner snipped
How to make striped glazed donuts:
1. Make a simple glaze by combining powdered sugar with milk and a little extract. A good starting ratio is 1 cup powdered sugar to 1–2 tablespoons milk plus 1/2 teaspoon extract; adjust until you reach a dip-able consistency.
2. Divide the glaze into bowls and tint each portion with food coloring to create the stripe colors you want.
3. Dip each donut into a base glaze and let it set briefly until it firms slightly.
4. Spoon the colored glazes into piping bags (or use sandwich bags), snip a tiny corner, and pipe stripes across each donut. I find it easiest to start in the middle and work outward to keep the lines even.
5. For variation, try piping stripes in both directions to make plaid, use multiple colors for rainbow stripes, or layer different widths of lines for more visual interest.
