One of our favorite October traditions is taking a neighborhood Halloween scavenger hunt. We stroll past decorated porches and yards, spotting everything from carved pumpkins and glowing jack-o’-lanterns to spooky spider webs and oversized inflatable ghosts. It’s a simple, low-key activity that our son asks for every day once October arrives.
Designer Dayanita Ramesh and I put together a free printable Neighborhood Halloween Scavenger Hunt to make these outings even more fun for kids and families. It’s also a handy classroom worksheet for teachers leading seasonal activities.
You can even coordinate with neighbors ahead of time so participants can find every item on the list. Alternatively, neighbors might hand out a small treat when a child checks off an item—an easy, festive alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.
Download and print the printable for free below and take it on your next neighborhood walk!

The sheet is sized for standard 8.5 × 11″ paper and prints on any home printer. For durability, print on cardstock so the page holds up while you walk. As you spot items, circle them, cross them off, or use stickers to mark your finds.
If you prefer not to print, download the file to your phone or tablet and use the device’s markup tool to check items off electronically. It’s a convenient zero-paper option for families on the go.
