Creative DIY Postcard Message Ideas with Patterned Designs

Pink cards with words on them

I recently worked on a fun Instagram project and enjoyed it so much I wanted to share the idea here. It’s National Letter Writing Month, which is the perfect reason to send some handmade snail mail. These simple patterned postcards are quick to make using cardstock, wrapping paper and letter stickers. They’re great for sending a cheerful note to a friend, brightening someone’s day, or adding a personal touch to an event invitation.

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Cut your cardstock to postcard size. A convenient size is 4 1/4″ x 6″.
2. Apply glue to one side of the cardstock and smooth your chosen wrapping paper over it.
3. Trim the excess wrapping paper using the cardstock edge as a guide so the paper fits neatly.
4. On the back, divide the card roughly into a 2/3 section for a message and a 1/3 section for the address. Draw four horizontal lines in the address area for neatness.
5. Use letter stickers to spell a short phrase, name, or greeting on the front.
6. Add your handwritten note, affix the proper postage, and mail your postcard.
