Looking for an easy way to make your living room more festive this holiday season? These DIY giant Christmas ornament pillows are a quick, charming project that instantly elevates your couch, bed, or floor seating.
These pillows require only basic sewing skills and can be made from almost any fabric. We tested velvet, fleece and lamé, but knit or woven fabrics work too—just be mindful of stretch. They make a lovely seasonal accent and can become a tradition you bring out each year.

Supplies You’ll Need
- 1/2 yard fabric for the ornament (velvet, fleece, lamé, or fabric of your choice)
- 1/4 yard silver or gold fabric for the ornament topper (lamé recommended)
- Ornament template (printable)
- Fabric scissors
- Pins
- Sewing machine
- Needle and thread for hand stitching
- Poly stuffing (one large bag)
- Silver or gold trim (optional)
- Silver or gold cord for the hanger
- Clear nail polish (to seal cord ends)
- Hot glue gun

How To Make Ornament Pillows

1. Cut six ornament sections from your main fabric using the template. Also cut one circle and one rectangle from the metallic fabric for the topper.
2. Place two ornament sections with right sides together and stitch along one curved edge.
3. Add a third section to that piece (right sides together) and stitch so you have one three-panel half.
4. Repeat to make a second three-panel half.

5. With right sides together, pin the two halves matching the points where panels meet. Pin around the entire edge, leaving a 3–4″ opening for turning. Stitch all the way around.
6. Turn the ornament right side out and fill it firmly with stuffing so it holds a round shape.
7. Close the opening with a slip stitch by hand so the seam is nearly invisible.

8. Sew the two short ends of the metallic rectangle with right sides together to form a small ring.
9. Pin the ring (right sides together) around the metallic circle and stitch to create the topper piece.
10. Turn the topper right side out and lightly stuff it so it retains shape.
11. Position the topper on the top center of the ornament and hand-stitch it in place with a slip stitch for a neat finish.
12. Cut a 4–5″ length of cord for the hanger. Dip the cut ends into clear nail polish immediately to prevent fraying and allow to dry.
13. Attach the cord to the top of the ornament topper—either hot glue it securely or hand-stitch it in place.
14. If desired, glue trim around the base of the topper to clean the seam and add sparkle.

These steps produce a plush, rounded ornament pillow with a metallic topper that looks polished and festive.

Where to Display Your Giant Ornament Pillows
These oversized ornament pillows make a festive addition anywhere you’d place a throw pillow: sofa, accent chair, entryway bench, or guest bed. They’re especially playful in a child’s room, a playroom, or as floor pillows near a media console. Swap them in for your regular toss pillows to immediately refresh a space for the holidays.
