Confetti-Dipped Balloons: Fun DIY Party Decor Tutorial

*A quick note: Thank you all for your patience while I moved Studio DIY to its shiny new server. We’re still smoothing out a few kinks, so thanks for bearing with me. Now, back to the fun…

After I covered my shoesandmy purse in confetti, I started confetti-dipping everything. Seriously—everything. One of my favorites to try was balloons. Clear balloons filled with confetti are gorgeous and trendy, but what if you want to try something different? Put the confetti on the outside. Even though I’m still pretending summer isn’t ending, this DIY already has me dreaming of New Year’s and planning a confetti-dipping party. The possibilities are endless.

Supplies:
– Balloons*
– Gold foil confetti (I bought a large bag at the party store; you can also cut your own from gold fringe curtains)
– Decoupage glue or Mod Podge
– Paint brush or foam brush

*If you fill your balloons with helium so they float, don’t add too much confetti or they won’t stay afloat. Sacrifice one balloon as a tester to check how much confetti it can carry. If you’re filling them with air and letting them sit or bounce on the floor, feel free to load on more confetti.

Instructions:
1. Inflate a balloon to the desired size.
2. Using a paint or foam brush, apply a thin, even layer of decoupage glue to the bottom portion of the balloon. You can paint a straight line for a defined “dip” or make the top edge irregular for a more organic look.
3. Hold the balloon over a large bowl of confetti. Pick up a handful of confetti and press it onto the glued area, working in sections until you’ve covered the desired portion. Shake the balloon gently to remove excess confetti, and set it aside to dry.

The confetti adheres nicely with just that first layer, but for extra durability brush a second thin coat of decoupage glue over the confetti and let it dry fully. It dries clear, but remember that an extra layer will add a little weight, which matters if you’re using helium—test before doing a whole batch.

I love combining some of my favorite things—this technique would also look great with colorful confetti for a different vibe.
