To assemble the Valentines: print the cards and cut them out. Place a pair of heart sunglasses on each card and mark where the temples sit. Cut a small slit at each mark and slide the sunglasses through the slits so they stay in place. If you prefer, tie the sunglasses to the card at the center with a short piece of twine. There are three different designs to choose from, so you can mix and match.
I bought my heart sunglasses from an online retailer, and they often appear in stores’ seasonal sections—Target’s Dollar Spot has been known to carry them. Local party stores also stock inexpensive heart sunglasses around this time of year, which is perfect if you plan to make a lot of Valentines.

Giving out Valentines was one of my favorite school traditions. I loved decorating my little mailbox—usually a paper lunch bag—and filling it with cards. In high school I once made small heart-shaped boxes with friends’ initials, filled with candy. I clearly never outgrew the fun of Valentines.
