Crochet Nativity Review
A Bit About the Author
Crochet Nativity is Biance Santos’ (aka Bianca Esmanhoto) debut book! Her website is Crochetniacs.com, and she sells her designs individually in her Crocehtniacs Etsy shop. They are all adorable!
“Bianca Esmanhoto is a former military sergeant who is passionate about arts and teaching. Crochet started as a stress relief from her air traffic controller job, won her heart, and soon gained exclusive dedication in her life. Her creative and somewhat restless mind is always looking for more, and so her business, Crocheniacs, was born. She says, “Writing this book is a dream and by far one of the most amazing accomplishments of my life.”” Read more here.
Now let’s dive into Crochet Nativity: Complete Instructions for 10 Dolls!
Inside Crochet Nativity: Complete Instructions for 10 Dolls
If you’re thinking it’s too early to talk Christmas, think again! If you’re going to start crocheting for holidays 2024, now is the time!
“Crochet the holy family and their visitors for your Christmas display!
Patterns include Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, three wise men, angel, sheep, cow, and donkey. Each pattern includes row-by-row instructions and photos as needed to explain details. Each character has special details that set them apart, such as crocheted hair, robe, crown, and accessories. The animals are adorable and ready for play!”
While there is a small section on how to read the patterns and block your creations, this book is all about the 10 adorable patterns! All the patterns are made using a 2.2mm crochet hook and Circulo yarns – Amigurumi, Cléa, and Anne Sparkle. These range in weight from 0 to 2, creating these small figures. Joseph and Mary are about 11cm tall, while the baby Jesus measures 7cm long.
Of course, you can use whatever yarns you like – and make much bigger figures if preferred! Just be sure to adjust your hook to your yarn, and create a nice tight fabric for stuffing. Besides the yarn, hook, stuffing, and patterns, all you’ll need to complete the set are safety eyes, glue, and a bit of craft wire.
There are several sample pages shown on Amazon, so we can take a look at them together here! As you can see above, the patterns are written in “amigurumi style.” It’s also super important to read the notes for this book on Page 4 – she uses a yarn under rather than yarn over, and the pieces are worked in a spiral – so be sure to have some stitch markers handy too!
And I love that this page (above) shows some of the great tips and techniques that are shared in this book! Working through these patterns will teach you so much about making amigurumi, and creating crochet dolls! There are so many photos and instructions here, it really is a treasure in only 47 pages.
