Details for MooglyCAL2025 Block 5

My Notes: The Hibiscus Afghan Square is floral without being overly feminine – maybe that’s why hibiscuses are Mr Moogly’s favorite flower! As always, be sure to read through both the notes and the special stitches carefully. The “crocodile stitch” here is different than you might think – it’s (5dc, ch 3, 5dc) all worked in the same spot. If you choose to do the 3rd loop sts rather than blo, be sure to have a sharp hook.

Helpful Links and Tutorials: 3rd Loop, Back Loop Only, Chainless Starting Double Crochet, Standing Single Crochet, Standing Double Crochet, Post Stitches, and seamless join.

Sizing: I got there early this time! In order to stay at 12″, I worked Rnd 13 with hdc sts in place of the dc sts, and eliminated Rnd 14. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.

What I Did:

I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

1: Cornsilk
2:
Boysenberry
3:
Mallard
4:
Merlot
5:
Black
6 and
7: Cornsilk
8 and 9:
Boysenberry
10 and 11:
Mallard
12:
Merlot
13:
Black
14: skipped for size

This square required a mild blocking, so I used the wet blocking method just to make it perfect.
