Block #16:

Aurora Square

Above you can see the square that Carolyn made, featuring 3 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors! (I’m doing a stash buster, so these colors will change throughout the year. This is my first Peacock one as I work through the rainbow!)

Details for MooglyCAL2024 Block 16

My Notes: The Aurora Square uses basic stitches to make a beautiful block. With only about 11 rounds, this one works up easily in an afternoon or evening. (I know a few of you will have it made within the next hour or so!) It’s a great square for beginners who are ready for a small challenge, and a relaxing make for everyone else!

Sizing: This pattern offers several finishing options, depending on what size you’re at! I ended up working Rnd 11 as a rnd of dc, but then I was still a little short (my own fault) so I added another rnd of sc. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.

What I Did:

I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

I followed the color scheme with my colors, except for the last 2 rounds.
Color A:
Light Gray
B:
Peacock
C:
White
Rnd 11: White (worked as dc)
Extra Rnd 12: White (added a rnd of sc for size)

This square required a mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method.
