Block #18:

Perfect Squares Square

by The Cocky Crocheter

Above you can see the square that Kelly made, featuring 2 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors! (I’m doing a stash buster, so these colors will change throughout the year. This is my third and last Peacock one as I work through the rainbow! The white and light gray are being carried throughout.)

My Notes: The Perfect Squares Square uses a lot of math in its conception – but don’t worry, all you need to know how to do is count! This square grows out from one corner, making it easy to adjust for size. The pattern itself is short, but there are lots of notes you’ll want to read through before you begin. Kelly uses a unique increase – it’s not what you’re used to! I did end up adding one more round for the border to get fully to size.

Helpful Links and Tutorials: BLO – Magic Circle, BLO – Back Loop Only, Third Loop Crochet, and seamless join.

Sizing: After I thought I was done, I needed to add another round of sc to the border to get to size. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.

What I Did:

I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

Change colors every 2 rows, cycling through Light Gray, Peacock, and White; work the Border with White.

This square required a strong blocking. I used the a combination of steaming and the wet blocking method.
