The Details

My Notes: You may have noticed that this is Andee’s second square for 2023. And I need to give her a BIG thank you for stepping in when another designer had to drop out of the CAL last minute – thank you Andee! The Pinwheel Square is a study in spirals, which is one of Andee’s specialties! Spirals can be tricky, so be sure to *follow her instructions to use stitch markers*! This is so so important to help you keep track. Be sure, as always, to read all the notes before you begin. Take your time with this one, and be sure to read the instructions thoroughly.

Helpful Links and Tutorials: CSDC, Join with SC, Loosely Slip Stitch, Crossed (X) Stitches, and Seamless Finishing.

Sizing: My square got to 12″ after Rnd 4 of the Border, so I stopped there, skipping the last round. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.

What I Did: I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

Make 2 squares: Pewter, White, Pewter, Light Gray
Make 2 squares:
Light Gray, White, Light Gray, Pewter
Border Rnds 1 – 3: Pewter
Border Rnd 4:
White
Border Rnd 5:
skipped for size

This square required mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.
