The Details (and Going Forward!)

My Notes: As mentioned, this is our last square for 2023 – but this crochet along will continue into 2024! I will be going LIVE on November 30 on the Moogly YouTube Channel to show all the ways you can combine your squares to make blankets, pillows, and even bags! Then, on December 29, I will go live again to share my (hopefully) finished blanket, and the schedule and info for 2024! In the meantime, click here for some joining ideas, and free border crochet patterns! Remember, how you finish up your blanket is up to you, and your chance to make it your own!

The Striped Christmas Mosaic Square is just right for ending our year! This design is pretty in holiday colors, but not a “holiday square” otherwise. Made in center-out mosaic it is interesting, but not difficult. Great for both crochet beginners and mosaic lovers, this one works up in just an evening or two. All that said, this pattern uses non-standard pattern writing format and a few unique abbreviations. Be sure to read all the notes before you begin! But don’t be intimidated – there’s also a tutorial video!

I chose to carry my 3 colors along rather than breaking the yarn every round. This did lead to just a little bit of “peek through” but saved over a dozen ends. If you prefer a cleaner look, try breaking the yarn and seamless finishing each round before joining with the first stitch of the next round.

Sizing: My square got to 12″ as written after Rnd 19. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.

What I Did: I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

This square required mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.
