Lodestar Square

by Hooked For Life

Above you can see the square that she made, featuring 2 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors! (I’m doing a stash buster, so these colors will change throughout the year. This is my third and final Cornsilk one as I work through the rainbow!)

The Details for MooglyCAL2024 Block 6

My Notes: The Lodestar Square is a great graphic center-out square that can be worked up in an afternoon or evening! Post stitches and color changes work together to create the star, and as you can see, there’s room here to play! I used a different color layout than Mary Beth did, and I can’t wait to see all the wonderful variations you all come up with!

Helpful Links and Tutorials: Not all of these stitches are included in the pattern, but I used them all in my version, so you can use them too if you like! Magic Circle (subbed for the ch 4 ring), CSDC in the ring (subbed for the first 3 chs of Rnd 1), Post Stitches, Butterfly Bobbins, Tapestry Crochet (for some multicolor rows), STDC (subbed for the first 3 chs of any ch 5 start), and BLO (used for an extra round to get to size).

Sizing: My square was a bit small after Rnd 8, so I added a round of blo dc and a final round of sc. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.

What I Did:

I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

Rnds 1 – 3: Cornsilk
Rnds 4 – 7:
Light Grey, Cornsilk, and White
Rnd 8:
Light Gray and White
Rnds 9 and
10 (added for size): White

This square required a mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method.
