Hello my knitting friends! I know its been a while since I last shared a pattern…. life’s been sprinting ahead of me! But, guess what? I’ve got some great news! Starting April, I’ll be working on Leelee Knits full-time! I’m beyond excited to kick things off because I’ve got some major plans to roll out even more helpful knitting content for you all this year. And today, I’m so happy to finally share my latest knit throw pattern with you all – the Cool Cables Blanket.
I designed this throw to be a rewarding project that looks sophisticated with its cable design but is still approachable enough for those of you who would like to stretch your knitting skills a bit. Blanket knitting is a great way to spend some relaxing time with your needles, especially if you’re ready to take on something a little more engaging than the basics. And the end result is a beautiful, cozy piece of art that you’ll be proud to show off as well as snuggle under!
This time, I tried something a bit different! I wrote the pattern in two sizes, giving you the option to choose if you want to make the bigger or smaller version. I’m often asked about adjusting the size of my blanket patterns, so I thought, why not simplify the process?! The smaller version of this blanket is would look awesome thrown over the sofa to add a pop of colour and texture to your home aesthetic, while the larger one is perfect to cuddle under for date nights at home watching movies.
Since this pattern has a more intricate cabled design, I’d be happy to create a video tutorial for how to knit the cables used in this blanket. Please let me know if this is something you’d like to see in the comments at the end of this post!

Choosing the Right Yarn for Your Knit Blanket

Free Pattern – Cool Cables Knit Throw Blanket
Everything You Need to Start Knitting Your Blanket
You will need the following materials to make one blanket:
Pattern Gauge:
17 stitches, 23 rows = 4″ in stockinette stitch before blocking.
Finished Blanket Sizes / Measurements
This blanket can be made in two sizes:
- Small: 34” wide X 57” long after blocking.
- Large: 41.5” wide X 72” long after blocking.
Abbreviations Used in Pattern
K: Knit.
P: Purl.
St: Stitch.
C6F: Slip next 3 stitches to cable needle and place at front of work, k3, then k3 from cable needle.
2/1RPC: Slip next stitch to cable needle and place at back of work, k2, then p1 from cable needle.
2/1LPC: Slip next 2 stitches to cable needle and place at front of work, p1, then k2 from cable needle.
Pattern Notes
- The blanket is knit flat in rows, using circular knitting needles to hold the large number of stitches.
- Wet/Steam blocking is highly recommended to finishing this blanket in order for it to lay flat and reach the finished dimensions.
