Creative Kids’ Room Decorating Ideas for Every Age

Arlo's Rainbow Nursery Reveal

I’ve been taking a short break from my usual Friday and weekend posts because life has been extremely busy, but I wanted to share something I’m genuinely excited about. Over the past few weeks I completed an interior styling course focused on children’s rooms, and I think many of you will find it useful.

The course, Kids Rooms 101, covers everything involved in designing and styling spaces for children. It combines practical design principles with hands-on tips specifically tailored to kid-friendly interiors. The lessons taught me how different these rooms are from adult spaces and gave me actionable guidance on how to plan functional, beautiful environments that work for little ones and their families.

I first discovered the course while designing Arlo’s room. That project felt like a turning point for me—suddenly I was hooked on designing spaces for kids. Since then I’ve been eager to learn more and expand into children’s interiors both personally and professionally. I connected with the course co-creators, Belinda, an interior designer who specializes in children’s spaces, and Ali, and received an advance look at the updated course materials.

The curriculum is packed with practical takeaways. It covers the main functions a child’s room needs to serve, how to create a focal point, smart ways to display items that matter to your child, and how to choose the right rug size and artwork. Those concrete strategies made the design process feel much more manageable.

One of the most helpful parts for me — and something I know many of you ask about — was learning simple, low-cost tools for building design and mood boards. The course highlights free or affordable platforms that let you assemble professional-looking boards without expensive software. That was a game-changer and made my planning faster and more fun.

The next session of the class begins on November 2nd. Early bird pricing is available through October 28th (11:59pm AEST). The course lists pricing in Australian dollars and includes useful extras: a collection of discount codes from brands the instructors partner with, and access to a private Facebook group where students and instructors share ideas and feedback.

If you’re a parent wanting to create a better space for your child, or a professional interested in specializing in kids’ interiors, this course is worth considering. It’s practical, focused, and full of ideas that can be applied right away. I came away feeling inspired and more confident about tackling future kid-friendly projects.

If you have questions about the course or want to hear more about how I applied what I learned to Arlo’s room, feel free to leave a comment. I’m excited to keep designing and sharing our upcoming children’s room projects.
