On Tuesday I shared a fun DIY for kids, and today I’m sharing a grown-up version for Easter that pairs two favorites: gold spray paint and paper flowers. Those tiny holes in plastic eggs are the perfect size for a toothpick, and mini crepe-paper blooms fit a toothpick beautifully. Spray a few plastic eggs gold, slide a paper flower mounted on a toothpick into the hole, and you’ve got instant decor: a festive brunch centerpiece, creative place cards, or even secret-message eggs (hide a note on the toothpick inside). These are simple, elegant, and endlessly adaptable—time to get creative!

First, let’s make the tiny paper flowers.

Paper Flower Supply List
Crepe paper sheets or crepe streamers
Toothpicks
Glue
How to make the flowers
Cut a small strip of crepe paper for the flower center (about 1 1/2″ x 1″). Fringe one edge of the strip. Then cut petal shapes from crepe paper—about six petals per flower will give a nice, full look (add more petals for extra fullness).

Place a very small line of glue along the solid edge of the fringed center (even less than shown) and roll it around the tip of a toothpick. Use tiny dots of glue to attach each petal around the toothpick, wrapping the petal bases carefully so the flower looks neat and secure. Once the petals are in place, add one or two leaves the same way if you like.

Don’t they look adorable? Now for the eggs.

Golden Egg Supply List
Plastic eggs
Gold spray paint
A tarp or drop cloth to protect your work surface
How to make the golden eggs
Separate the egg halves and lay them out curved side up on the tarp. Spray lightly and evenly from a distance to avoid paint pooling on the plastic. Apply thin coats and allow to dry fully according to the spray paint can’s instructions. If the paint blocks the hole at the top of the egg, you can re-open it later with a toothpick or small awl.

Assembly

Push each flower-mounted toothpick up through the hole at the top of the egg, pulling from the bottom so the flower sits neatly on top. Sizes vary: some toothpicks will slide in easily, others may need a little pressure. If an opening is clogged with paint, reopen it gently with a toothpick or small awl before inserting the flower.

Once assembled, these golden egg paper flowers can be used in many ways. Arrange a dozen in a ceramic egg crate or low dish for a simple centerpiece. Place one at each seat as a unique place card by slipping a small name tag around the egg or tucking a tiny note on the toothpick inside for guests to discover. They also work well as party favors or as part of a spring-themed display.
