A Bit About the Designer
I first noticed Olena’s designs on Pinterest – she always has something new and cute that catches my eye! So I was delighted to learn more about her in this Designer Showcase!
Here’s a bit about Olena:
Hi, I am Olena, the crochet designer behind GoldenLucyCrafts.com. I grew up in Ukraine and during my childhood, I was surrounded by many handmade items created by my mom and both of my grandmothers. My mom taught me how to knit and crochet when I was a young girl and the first thing I crocheted was a doily. When I was about 15, I learned how to sew. Since then, crocheting, knitting and sewing have been a big part of my life.
Now I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States with my very supportive husband, our son, and our super active golden retriever Hazel. Our previous golden Lucy was my first big dog love, and she became my model and inspiration for my crochet designs for dogs. She also gave her name to my blog – GoldenLucyCrafts. I have many fond memories of crocheting with Golden Lucy at my feet, and look forward to Hazel carrying on this tradition once she settles down!
I love to design various things, but most of all appliques. I like that after I create the design, the applique starts its next life. I use appliques to create wall art for home décor, greeting cards, garlands, etc.
I am also a certified crochet instructor and have contributed some of my designs to crochet digital magazines.
Besides crocheting, I am enjoying cooking, reading, gardening, and spending time outdoors with my family.
