You already know that simple stitches are our forte. Today we are going to show you how to crochet a little bobble border, simple but striking, which will give a special touch to your knitted garments. It looks great on throw blankets for the sofa, but it can also look great on the hem of your favorite cardigan, what do you think?
For this tutorial we used a skein of our Merifine wool and a size 8 (5 mm) crochet hook.
Before starting,
here is a reminder of how to do the stitches we will use in this post:
Let’s get started!
We used a small piece worked in double crochet for this example. Your piece can be as big as you want.
Start at one corner and work single crochet around the whole piece.
Remember that for each row in double crochet you will have to work two single crochets, and in the corners, you have to work three single crochets.
Just like you
started adding the border in a corner, you should also start the bobble border
in this corner. You should make a bobble in each corner.
We will start by
chaining 3 for the first bobble.
Insert your hook
in the first chain and make a double crochet without closing the stitch.
Repeat the previous step by inserting your hook into the first chain and making five more double crochets, but without closing them so that the stitches stay on your hook as shown in the image above.
Now you pull up a loop and close all the stitches together.
Make a small fold in the bobble to give it more body
Make a slip stitch
in the base of the bobble, in the spot shown in the image above.
And there you have your bobble!
Continue along the
side by working slip stitches.
The distance
between each bobble is arbitrary, you can choose how close you want your
bobbles to be. We did it 5 by 5. This way, when we reach the fifth slip stitch,
we work it and we then start the whole process to make the next bobble.
When you reach the
end of the round, all you have to do is secure the yarn on the wrong side of
the fabric, and weave in the end to finish it off.
We hope this
step-by-step tutorial was useful to you. Where will you start adding bobbles?
We can’t wait to see your projects using them on social media with the hashtag
