How to knit the Shaker Rib stitch – The Blog – US/UK

If you’re thinking about knitting a scarf this Winter: this is the stitch you will fall in love with. It’s similar to the Rib stitch but it has a looser, softer texture, and a boho vibe to it. It’s easy to knit and, with a thicker yarn, you will have your scarf done in no time.

For this tutorial we used one of our Merifine skeins in aquamarine and size US 11 (8mm) knitting needles.

As usual, here’s a list of the techniques we will use in this post:

We will cast on an even number of stitches.

Row 1 (Right side of the work): *knit 1, purl 1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 2 (Wrong side of the work): knit all stitches.

To work the next row you will need to know how to work this stitch: now we will explain very quickly how to knit a stitch by inserting the needle in the row below.

When you reach the stitch you need to knit in the row below, you will have is as in the picture above.

Instead of inserting the needle in the middle of the stitch, as we usually do, insert in in the row below, picking up the lower strand.

Row 3 (Right side of the work): *knit 1 by inserting the needle in the row below, purl 1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

You must repeat rows 2 and 3 until you reach the desired length.

We hope you like this stitch and that soon you share your projects with it in social media with the hashtag #weareknitters 🙂 Until next time!
