We are ready for warm knits with soft textures. The stitch we are going to show you today is perfect for making a baby blanket (youโre sure to have someone on your gift list to make it for) made with the soft wool we recommend in this post. Are you up for the challenge?
For this step-by-step tutorial we used a skein of our The Baby Wool and pair of size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles.
Before starting, we always like to leave a list of the stitches we used, in case you need a quick review ๐
Letโs get started!
We will start by casting on a multiple of 8 stitches + 6.
Row 1: purl all stitches.
Row 2: knit all stitches.
Row 3: *knit 6, slip 2 stitches to the right-hand needle with your working yarn in front, as if you were going to purl them*. Repeat from * to * until there are 6 stitches left. Knit the last 6 stitches of the row.
NOTE After you slip the stitches from one needle to the other it is important not to work the next stitch too tightly. Try to leave it a bit loose so that the fabric does not turn out too tight.
Row 4: *purl 6 stitches, slip the next 2 stitches to the right-hand needle with the yarn behind your work as if you were going to purl them. * Repeat from * to * until there are 6 stitches left. Purl the last 6 stitches.
Row 5: work the same as for row 3.
Row 6: work the same as for row 4.
Row 7: work the same as for row 3.
Row 8: purl all stitches.
Row 9: purl all stitches.
Row 10: knit all stitches.
Row 11: knit the first 2 stitches of the row, *slip 2 stitches to the right-hand needle as if you were going to purl them with the yarn in front of your work, knit 6 stitches*. Repeat from * to * until there are 4 stitches left on the needle. Now slip 2 stitches as if you were going to purl them, with the yarn in front of your work, knit 2 stitches.
Row 12: purl the first 2 stitches, *slip 2 stitches to the right-hand needle with yarn behind your work as if you were going to purl them, purl 6*. Repeat from * to * until there are 4 stitches left. Work the last 4 stitches in the row as follows: slip 2 stitches to the right-hand needle with yarn behind your work as if you were going to purl them, purl 2.
Row 13: work the same as for row 11.
Row 14: work the same as for row 12.
Row 15: work the same as for row 11.
Row 16: purl all stitches.
To finish your project just keep repeating rows 1 to 16 as many times necessary to reach your desired length.
As always, itโs a pleasure to bring you new stitches, and you probably already have an idea to use them for your next knitting projects. Remember that it is always a pleasure to see everything that comes off needles on social networks. Tag us at #weareknitters ๐
