How to Make a Mini Tassel Garland: Step-by-Step DIY Guide

Let’s be honest: tassel garlands are everywhere, but this tiny fringe version is worth another look. While testing tassel ideas for a different project, a little pink tissue paper and gold tape naturally became a delicate mini tassel garland. I love fringe, and this petite design felt irresistible—so here it is, even though my current theme leans toward “giant.” Consider this a small encore for mini decor.

Supplies:
Tissue paper
Gold tape (available at art supply stores; a narrow metallic tape works best)
Twine or string
Rotary cutter or sharp scissors
Ruler
Cutting mat (a gridded mat makes measuring easier)

A quick tip: a rotary cutter makes this project much faster, since you can cut several layers of tissue paper at once. Cut your tissue into strips about 1/4″ wide and roughly 5″ long. You’ll need about 20 strips per mini tassel; you can adjust the number for a fuller or lighter look.

Measure and cut your twine to the desired garland length. Stack around twenty tissue strips, fold the stack over the twine, and pinch the folded area to hold it in place.

While keeping the fold pinched, wrap a short piece of gold tape (about 1″ long) around the top of the tassel to secure it. Trim any uneven ends if you want a neater finish.

Repeat to make as many tassels as you like, spacing them along the twine to achieve the look you want. Once your tassels are in place, your garland is finished and ready to display.

This miniature garland works beautifully as a cake topper or as small-scale party decor. Consider creating several garlands in different colors for a playful, layered look—rainbow strands would be especially charming.
