After I made the donut piñata, I decided to start turning donuts into everything. Are you with me? One of my first ideas was donut balloons. It turns out donut-shaped balloons already exist, but they’re missing the best parts: the glossy frosting and sprinkles. So I made colorful, sprinkle-covered donut balloons that look almost good enough to eat—please don’t try.

These balloons were filled with helium (I found mine at a local party store). You can also purchase donut-shaped balloons from many retailers. For this DIY you’ll need:
- Donut-shaped helium balloons
- Acrylic craft paint
- Foam brush
- Crepe paper, cut into small rectangles for sprinkles
- Double-stick tape
To create the frosting effect, paint a rough circle on one side of the inflated donut balloon using acrylic paint and a foam brush. Allow the first coat to dry, then apply a thin second coat for more even coverage. The paint dries quickly on these balloons, but be sure it’s completely dry before moving on.

Once the painted “frosting” is dry, add sprinkles by sticking a piece of double-stick tape to the back of each tiny crepe paper rectangle and pressing them onto the painted area. Arrange the sprinkles randomly for a playful, authentic look.

These DIY donut balloons make a fun, whimsical decoration for showers, birthday parties, or any celebration where you want a playful touch. To avoid confusion at a party, pair them with real donuts so guests aren’t tempted to take a bite out of the balloons.

This probably won’t be the last donut project you’ll see here—consider yourself warned. Now go make some donut balloons, enjoy some real donuts, or do both.
