After nearly four months, I’m finally sharing a tour of the new Studio DIY HQ and introducing our newest team member, Samantha. We moved into a larger studio in February for several reasons: more space, a nicer floor, and—most importantly—a sink. Honestly, I’ve never been so thrilled about a sink. Below are a few snapshots of the new headquarters, the blank slate it began as, and a quick introduction to the person who’s helped keep Studio DIY running smoothly.

When planning the new space, I knew I wanted white floors again but I didn’t want to repeat the mistakes from the first studio. White floors need to be done right and properly sealed, so we worked with Benjamin Moore to create the perfect blank canvas. To cover the concrete, we applied several coats of Floor & Patio Low Sheen Latex in white, followed by two coats of Benwood Stays Clear Acrylic Polyurethane in Low Lustre. The process was straightforward and the result was exactly what we hoped for.

The finished floor is perfection—bright, clean, and durable. We’re taking extra care to keep it that way: regular gentle washes with soapy water and a fun supply of socks for visitors so we don’t track in dirt. Candy-covered socks are totally welcome in my book.

One of my favorite details in the space is the hand-shaped wall hooks—yes, we painted their nails. It felt like the obvious finishing touch.

Now for the official introduction: meet Samantha. You may have seen her mentioned on social media, but she deserves a proper shout-out. Samantha joined Studio DIY at the beginning of 2015 as Operations Manager. Her role includes answering emails, managing spreadsheets and calendars, crafting clever phrases (she’s a pun master), taste-testing cookies, and generally keeping the administrative side of things organized. If you email the studio, chances are Samantha will get back to you—she actually answers messages, which has been a huge help. Her work lets me focus on the creative side while she handles the day-to-day operations. Please say hello when you see her around!
