Knit This Colorwork Pullover Today – Promethean – Expression Fiber Arts | A Positive Twist on Yarn

Hello, my shining star! This week, I have a stunning, knitted, colorwork sweater that features loads of fun techniques and beautiful details. I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about this gorgeous pattern!

Knit This Colorwork Pullover Today – Promethean – Expression Fiber Arts | A Positive Twist on Yarn

Promethean was designed by Debi Maige. When asked about this sweater, Debi said, “It all started when one of my Knit Night friends gave me a single skein of yarn, which sparked a level of creativity that could only be described as Promethean! First, I decided it was time to conquer the hand-knit tubular cast on. I was very familiar with the method, as I was a machine knitter for years. It was time to get the technique down by hand. Then I thought, ‘I love the look of corrugated ribbing.’ And BAM! I added corrugated ribbing. While I was at it, how about a Latvian Braid? I had never created one of those, and they’re so pretty. So off I went to learn that skill, and into the design it went. Hmmm, now what? How about some very simple, but effective colorwork? Yes, thank you! Then I moved on to the body and sleeves to finish off with another Latvian Braid and more corrugated ribbing, and voilà, you have a beautiful pullover!”This Intermediate to Advanced level pattern is for the adventurous knitter who loves to tackle something a bit more complicated. Skills/concepts include chart reading, increasing and decreasing, Tubular cast on and bind off, German Short Rows, Kitchener stitch, stranded colorwork, and garment sizing. You will need to be able to read charts to knit this sweater.

Promethean is knitted with our Limited Edition Bamboo Alpaca Fingering yarn and our luxurious Oasis Camel Silk Fingering yarn. Bamboo Alpaca Fingering is a wonderful yarn that is a soft and silky blend of 80% Bamboo and 20% Alpaca. With drape galore and a subtle sheen, this elegant yarn is puddly, slinky, and dreamy! It’s an amazing option for all seasons, even warmer weather and comes in 15 scrumptious colors, including lively bolds and peaceful pastels with 384 yds/351 m per skein. This yarn is ideal for shawls, garments, hats, mittens, blankets, and so much more!

Oasis Camel Silk Fingering is an exotic, sultry blend of 50% camel fiber and 50% Mulberry silk for incredible softness and shimmer! Wonderful for heirloom or wedding shawls, other wraps, scarves, sweaters, and so much more with 500 yds (457 m) per 3-ply skein. Camel is a super soft fiber that’s similar to cashmere in its softness. It’s a lightweight fiber with a subtle sheen that’s also strong and smooth. Mulberry silk is also smooth and strong with a slinky feel that helps it slide nicely on your needles and hooks. Both fibers take the dye wonderfully, which results in saturated colors that really pop! When camel fiber is combined with Mulberry silk, you get an enchanting yarn that is a true delight!

Promethean is written for sizes: XS (S, M, L) (XL, 2XL, 3XL) (4XL, 5XL) with finished bust measurements of 34 (36, 40, 44) (48, 52, 56) (60, 64)” / 86 (91, 102, 112) (122, 132, 142) (152, 163) cm. It’s designed to be worn with 2–4” (5–10 cm) of positive ease. Depending on the size you make, Promethean requires four to seven skeins of Bamboo Alpaca Fingering for the main color (MC), two to three skeins of a second Bamboo Alpaca Fingering color for the first contrast color, (CC1), and one to two skeins of Oasis Camel Silk Fingering for the second contrast color (CC2). You’ll find more details about yardage requirements in the pattern.

The sample shown here was knitted with colors Tropical Ocean Bamboo Alpaca Fingering (MC), Summer Cocktail Bamboo Alpaca Fingering (CC1), and Au Lait Oasis Camel Silk Fingering (CC2). The version shown here is a size S, modeled on a 34” (86 cm) bust with 2” (5 cm) of positive ease.

Bamboo Alpaca Fingering is a Limited Edition yarn. Once this year’s colors are sold out, they are gone for good, so be sure to purchase all you need for your project.

We made a video tutorial showing how to work the Tubular Cast On, the Tubular Bind Off, the Backwards Loop Cast On, and the Latvian Braid. Take a look!
