Hello, my sweet sugarplum! Today, I have an adorable, knitted hat and shawl set for you. They’re perfect as last-minute gifts or as a snuggly treat for yourself! Keep reading to learn all about this week’s new pattern!
Heartbeat was designed by Becca Leith. When asked about the inspiration for her debut pattern, she said, “Heartbeat is a hat and shawl set named after the design of the pattern, which resembles a beating heart. Although we may have days where we want to just lay in bed and cuddle up in our blankets or heavy sweaters, our hearts are always still beating to remind us of the good things happening in our lives – one of these things being life itself. The Heartbeat hat and shawl are designed to be oversized to allow for maximum comfort, while also giving a visual representation of our constantly beating hearts.”
“The shawl has one size option, but the length is easily adjustable. The hat has three size options with three brim options: unfolded, folded, and double folded. The shawl is knitted flat from one end to the other with fringe added on the ends, and the hat is knitted from the bottom up in the round. The hat is designed to be knitted using circular needles with a small cable and DPNs for the crown.”
This is an Intermediate level pattern that is perfect for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include k2tog, simple cables or twisted stitches (1/1 LT and 1/1 RT), Long-Tail cast on, knitted bind off, and adding fringe with a crochet hook.
The Heartbeat hat and shawl were both knitted with our delightfully soft, single-ply Pearlescent Worsted yarn, which is shimmery, heavenly, and wildly popular! Our luscious, luxurious Pearlescent Worsted is a 50:50 blend of Superwash Merino Wool and Mulberry Silk. Smooth with a gorgeous gleam! It’s a dreamy yarn that’s ideal for next-to-skin accessories like cowls, shawls, scarves, hats, and more! Unbelievably soft with a lovely drape and a shine that just won’t quit! Our iridescent, otherworldly Pearlescent Worsted yarn has 220 yds/201 m of scrumptious yardage in each skein.
We used five skeins of Idyllic Pearlescent Worsted to knit both the shawl and hat shown here. The hat sample is shown in size M, modeled on a 22″ (56 cm) head, and it used 150 yds (137 m). The shawl shown here used 846 yds (774 m).
We made a video tutorial showing how to add fringe and work the 1×1 Twisted Rib, RT/LT, C2F, and C2B stitches featured in this pattern. Grab your needles and some yarn and follow along with me!
This pattern includes written and charted instructions. You will need to be able to read charts to knit these patterns.
