Knit This Intarsia Shawl Today – Sainte Terrer – Expression Fiber Arts | A Positive Twist on Yarn

Hello, my sweet buttercup! Today, I have two versions of a beautiful, knit shawl that I know you’re going to adore! Sainte Terrer is an intarsia and lace design that we’ve made in both a multicolored and a single-color version for you. Keep reading to learn all about this week’s new pattern!

Knit This Intarsia Shawl Today – Sainte Terrer – Expression Fiber Arts | A Positive Twist on Yarn

Sainte Terrer was designed by Amy Mercier. When asked about her inspiration for this pattern, she said, “‘Sainte-Terrer’ is the word from which ‘saunter’ is derived. Inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s lecture ‘Walking’ in which Thoreau describes walking, or sauntering, through nature as a kind of spiritual experience.”

“To explore themes of self-reflection and exploration, I designed this rectangular shawl to draw in elements of nature: a seed stitch border, simple vertical openwork to represent wind blowing through the grass, all surrounded by panels of lacy leaves. As you saunter through this project, I hope you take a moment to enjoy and be inspired by the nature around you.”

This is an Intermediate to Advanced level pattern and is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. This pattern is ideal for knitters who have worked lace and simple intarsia projects and who have experience managing multiple balls of yarn in a project.

The single-color version of this shawl was knitted with our Limited Edition All Good Things Fingering yarn, which is an incredible choice for this gorgeous shawl because this yarn is a silky soft and draping with a subtle shimmer and glow. All Good Things Fingering comes in ten scrumptious colors and is a blend of 75% Bamboo Viscose, 15% Fine Merino Wool, and 10% Lyocell with 437 yds/400 m per 100 g skein. This yarn is ideal for multi-seasonal use and for shawls and wraps, garments, hats, mittens, blankets, baby items, home decor, and more! Let these colors remind you that you are worthy of every good thing this life has to offer!

The single-color version of Sainte Terrer used approximately 1151 yds/1052 m total (or three skeins) of Love Answers All All Good Things Fingering.

All Good Things Fingering is a Limited Edition yarn, so be sure to order all you need for your project. Once these colors are gone, they’re gone for good.

The multicolored, intarsia version of Sainte Terrer was made with our luxurious Buttery Sport yarn, which is a 100% Superwash Merino Wool yarn. Squishy, bouncy, and buttery! What’s not to love about this super soft, lush, and cuddly sport weight yarn that’s also machine washable? Made from Superwash Superfine Merino Wool, this two-ply yarn produces fat, full stitches and has 300 yds/274 m per skein. No itchiness or scratchiness here! Use this fun and boingy yarn to make soft, supple projects that work up quickly!

We used two skeins of Grandfather’s Library Buttery Sport and two skeins of Optimist Buttery Sport yarn to knit our multicolored sample, which used approximately 968 yds/885 m total: Color A) 574 yds/525 m and Color B) 394 yds/360 m.

We made a video tutorial showing how to work the special stitches featured in this pattern. Grab your needles and some yummy yarn, and follow along with me!
