Hello, my sweet sunbeam! This week, I have a cozy, striped, knitted cardigan pattern that I know will be a wonderful addition to your Fall wardrobe! I hope you’ll keep reading to learn more about this stunning pattern.
Balmy was designed by Emma Butram. When asked about her design, Emma said, “The word ‘balmy’ denotes calm and peace, both in the weather and a person’s mindset. Knitting can help soothe nerves after a stressful time and make you feel productive, even if nothing else has gone right during the day. The Balmy cardigan is worked in simple stockinette stitch, which is very rhythmic and soothing, especially when paired with a favorite TV show or audiobook. A generous stripe pattern keeps the design interesting”
“The cardigan also features a V-neck with top-down raglan shaping and a seed stitch trim in a contrasting color that ties all the stripes together. You can knit the pattern in just two colors or go crazy with lots of colors in the body – it’s up to you! On page 8, you’ll find a detailed yardage breakdown based on the number of colors used. I hope you find this cardigan to be a fun piece to add to your wardrobe and that you feel a sense of balmy calm while knitting it.”This Intermediate level pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include reading a pattern, garment construction and shaping, working increases and decreases, knitting colorwork stripes both flat and in the round, and picking up stitches for the sleeves and neckband.
Balmy is made with our scrumptious Buttery Worsted yarn, which is a dreamy soft, 2-ply worsted weight yarn that’s boingy, bouncy, comfy, cozy, cushy, and cloud-like! It is unbelievably soft and perfect for snuggly blankets, cuddly accessories, sweaters, and other garments. Buttery Worsted is made from 100% Superwash Merino Wool and has 224 yds/205 m per skein.
The sample shown here was knitted with colors: A) Librettist, B) New York at Night, C) The Spark, D) Coffee Stain, and E) Cozied Buttery Worsted.
The pattern is offered in sizes XS (S, M, L) (XL, 2XL, 3XL), and you’ll need 5 – 15 skeins, depending on the size you select and the number of stripes you include. See the yardage breakdown on page 8 of the pattern for more details. If you wish to make the body or sleeves longer, you will need additional yarn.
The sample shown here used five colors and is shown in size Small, modeled on a 34” (86 cm bust) with 2” (5 cm) of positive ease. It used one skein each of Colors A, C, D, and E and two skeins of Color B.
We made a video featuring this cardigan, along with five other cardigans you can make. Take a look!
