Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without a conversation heart project. Over the years this theme has appeared on cakes, donuts, balloons, piñatas and accessories — and now it’s time for something wearable: conversation heart leggings. These are simple to make using printable iron-on transfers so you can customize colors and messages and iron them onto any pair of leggings you love.

Supplies:
– A pair of leggings (white or light-colored works best)
– Inkjet iron-on transfer paper (follow the packaging for printer settings)
– Printable conversation heart sheet (print mirrored art so text reads correctly after transfer)
– Inkjet printer
– Scissors
– Iron and ironing board

How to make conversation heart leggings:
1. Download and print the conversation heart sheet, making sure the images are mirrored if required by your iron-on paper. Follow the transfer paper package instructions for printing on an inkjet printer. Cut out each heart shape carefully.
2. Lay out the cut hearts on the leggings to plan placement and color balance. Arrange them flat and face up to visualize spacing. A practical tip: avoid placing hearts directly over joints like the knees, because repeated bending can cause early wear.
3. When you’re satisfied with the arrangement, flip each heart so the printed side is face down on the fabric.
4. Iron the hearts in small sections following the transfer paper directions. Work a few hearts at a time and avoid peeling the backing before all pieces have cooled. Try not to iron twice over the same transfer to prevent shifting or smudging. Once cooled, remove the backing sheets.
