Mickey Mouse Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Guide

One of the most beloved sights of Halloween Time at Disneyland is the giant Mickey Mouse pumpkin on Main Street. Its friendly grin announces that fall has arrived and always brings a smile.

We visit Disneyland every year to enjoy the Halloween decorations, but if you want a little of that park magic at home, you can make your own Mickey pumpkin. I made a reusable Mickey Mouse pumpkin from foam to add to our Halloween collection, and it’s a simple project you can enjoy year after year.

Follow the steps below to create a long-lasting Mickey pumpkin carving using foam pumpkins and basic craft supplies.

How To Make A Mickey Pumpkin

This project comes together in a few straightforward steps. Use the printable stencil if you prefer precise shapes, or sketch the face by hand for a looser look.

  • pumpkin with Mickey face drawn on
  • pumpkin with mickey face partially carved
  • pumpkin with mickey face carved
  • green felt leaf, green pipe cleaner and scissors on marble table
  • small pumpkin with hot glue gun in front
  • pumpkin mickey ear
  1. Tape the Mickey stencil to the large pumpkin in the position you like.
  2. Use a poker tool or awl to punch holes along the stencil outline for each face feature; this gives you an easy cutting guide. Remove the paper stencil.
  3. Cut along the dotted outline with a carving knife, following the hole guide to create the eyes, nose, and mouth.
  4. Carefully cut around the stem so you can lift it out later to place the tea light inside.
  5. Attach the two small pumpkins to the sides of the large pumpkin with hot glue to form Mickey’s ears.
  6. Cut a simple leaf shape from the green felt.
  7. Curl the pipe cleaner around your finger and trim to the desired length for the stem tendril.
  8. Hot glue the felt leaf on top of the pumpkin, then glue the pipe cleaner on top of the leaf.
  9. Place the battery-operated tea light inside the pumpkin through the nose opening or through the opening you made at the stem. Turn it on and enjoy your glowing Mickey pumpkin.

How To Display Your Pumpkin Carving

This Mickey Mouse pumpkin makes a sweet piece of Halloween decor for a child’s room—place it on a nightstand, dresser, or shelf to add seasonal charm. You can pair it with a few Halloween-themed books to create a cozy reading nook.

It also looks great on a living room bookshelf, an entry console, or a covered porch where trick-or-treaters can enjoy it. Since this version is made from foam and uses a battery tea light, it’s durable and safe for indoor displays.
