Patterned Green Bedroom Ideas for a Fresh, Stylish Look

Green Pattern Bedroom

Eight years ago we moved into our home and painted every wall white to create a blank canvas. Over time we’ve introduced more color as the house has settled into what feels like our long-term home. After recently painting the dining room blue, I turned my attention to the bedroom and embraced green and lots of pattern.

Color Drenching the Space in Green

I’d previously painted a bedroom in another house a deep green and loved the cozy drama it created, so green felt like a natural choice again—this time in a different tone. We worked with Farrow & Ball to paint the walls and ceiling Yeabridge Green, a bright avocado hue that reads vibrant in daylight and moody at night. The trim is a deeper Sap Green, a shade Farrow & Ball recently revived from their archives.

The result completely transformed the room. Yeabridge Green makes a distinct backdrop that invites layering with varied patterns and complementary hues, both light and deep.

Mixing Patterns with Furniture & Textiles

I wanted the bedroom to be rich with pattern—florals, stripes and prints layered together to feel collected and comfortable.

For the bed we selected a green woodland print from a collaboration with The Inside, and layered an antique Persian rug beneath to pull additional colors into the room. I dyed a white duvet blue, added a block print quilt, and sewed a striped pillow from African fabric found at a flea market.

The chaise was a curbside find that we reupholstered in a citrine cabana stripe. I like that the same stripe is available on other pieces—curtains and pillows—so the pattern repeats in a cohesive way throughout the room.

Mixing antique textiles with new upholstery and handmade accents creates warmth and a sense of history. The variety of scale—from small stripes to large florals—keeps the layering lively without feeling chaotic.

Gallery Wall

I love adding gallery walls wherever possible, and the bedroom was a perfect spot. A gallery disguises a framed TV and becomes a rich tapestry of memories and discoveries.

The pieces here were collected over more than eight years from flea markets and independent artists. Some are handmade by me—I painted a striped plate piece and cross-stitched a Wizard of Oz panel. Other favorites include a fan purchased in Mexico City and a teal portrait that previously lived in our Palm Springs kitchen. I’ve balanced the busy gallery with a single smaller painting above the bed for contrast.

A small “Disney corner” anchors one wall with a vintage Disneyland map, a Mary Poppins-inspired piece, and a trio of carriage illustrations in soft colors—little sentimental touches we like to include in each room.

Vintage Hutch as Storage in a Bedroom

Storage was a priority. In our 1930s house many walls are taken up by windows, doors and arches, so when we closed a door that wasn’t needed, I used the space for a vintage hutch that offers closed storage below and open display above.

This piece stores clothes out of sight while giving a place to showcase ceramics, books and small collectibles. It’s both practical and decorative—exactly what the room needed.

Secondhand Nightstand Makeover

Nightstands can be difficult to find—matching pairs in the right size, quality and price are rare. I found a solid-wood pair on Facebook Marketplace and updated them with paint and new hardware.

I painted them Eating Room Red to echo reds in the rug and artwork and to create a vivid contrast with the Yeabridge Green walls, finishing them with simple gold pulls. It was an affordable way to get the exact look and scale we wanted.

Unique Lighting to Finish A Space

Lighting completes a room. I mixed styles—crystal sconces, a colorful adjustable sconce, a vintage yellow chandelier and a terracotta lamp topped with a striped DIY shade—to add personality and varied textures.

Many of the fixtures are vintage finds that were rewired and updated, which is an easy way to add character while staying sustainable and budget-conscious.

Get the Look

Many pieces in this room are vintage or handmade. To make it easier to recreate the palette and approach, I compiled the paint colors, furniture and similar decor items used throughout the space into one collection. It’s a handy reference if you want to achieve a similar layered, eclectic look.

I love how the room feels now—textured, cozy and layered. It’s comfortable and personal, and I look forward to adding more treasures and stories as time goes on.
