Hello, pumpkin! Today, I have a cute-as-a-button pair of cozy, cabled, knitted mittens to tell you about. The Merrymaking Mittens are sized for both children and adults and would make an amazing holiday gift! I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about them!
The Merrymaking Mittens were designed by Patricia Liefeld. When asked about the inspiration behind this design, Patricia said, “These mittens are inspired by a past holiday I spent in the snowy mountains of Lake Tahoe. Sitting on the porch, wrapped in a big, comfy blanket, drinking hot chocolate, and watching the kids and grandkids playing in the snow. There is nothing better than listening to little ones giggling and having fun; they were merrymaking. These festive mittens are made using knit and purl stitches along with three different cables. The cables wrap around themselves like that warm blanket wrapped around me. This pattern is easily adjustable from cuff lengths to hand lengths and from mittens to fingerless gloves. The different sizes allow you to make mittens for all the merrymakers in your life.”
This is an Intermediate level pattern and is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include working in the round, cables, sizing, construction, and blocking. The pattern includes written and charted instructions.
The Merrymaking Mittens come in sizes: Child (Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large) and are knitted with our scrumptious Buttery Worsted yarn. Buttery Worsted is a dreamy soft, 2-ply worsted weight yarn that’s boingy, bouncy, comfy, cozy, cushy, and cloud-like! It is unbelievably soft and perfect for snuggly blankets, cuddly accessories, your favorite sweaters, and all other types of garments! Buttery Worsted is made from 100% Superwash Merino Wool and has 224 yds/205 m per skein.
The sample shown here is a size Adult Medium and was made with our luscious Red Velvet Rose Buttery Worsted yarn. Depending on the size you make, the length of the cuff, and whether you add the optional pom poms, you’ll need approximately 120 to 295 yds/110 to 270 m of Buttery Worsted yarn.
