Have I Just Invented a New Stitch Pattern?

So when I set out to make this set, I wanted to use Red Heart Super Saver Brushed and basic stitches, but keep it interesting… little did I know where my hook was going to lead me!

Woven Warmth Crochet Scarf

I started playing around, combining a little bit of interlocking crochet, maybe a touch of mosaic… and I came up with something I don’t think I’ve seen before. I consulted other designers, but they couldn’t pin it down as one thing either. So if you’ve seen this stitch pattern before, please let me know! As for now, I’m calling the specific stitch a WTr – Woven Treble.

This stitch pattern is created by working two rows of mesh in one color, and then weaving the first row of mesh in the next color through those rows. Yes, there will be a video stitch tutorial! I first figured it out with this scarf pattern – and then translated it for the hat and mittens. This is the pattern to start with when learning this stitch – it’s a lot easier in rows than in rounds.

The fabric this stitch makes is thick without being heavy, and creates lots of pockets of air for warmth. And while it’s new and different, the stitches themselves aren’t difficult – though I have used post stitches for ribbing at the ends. The hardest part was picking a “wrong side” and a “right side” – I love them both!
