French manicures are making a comeback, and we gave the classic a colorful, Valentine’s Day twist. Using a simple sponge technique, you can create multi-color tips that look professional but are easy to DIY. Below are clear, step-by-step instructions to recreate this festive French mani at home.

DIY Valentine’s Day French Manicure
Total Time: 30 minutes
Supplies
Nude polish
Various shades of pink, red and purple polishes
White polish
Makeup sponge (cut into small pieces to fit your nail width)
French tip guide stickers
Directions
1. Apply two thin coats of a nude polish and allow nails to dry fully.
2. Place a French tip guide on each nail. Trim the makeup sponge into pieces about the width of your nails. Paint two or three polish colors—including white if you want a soft gradient—onto the edge of the sponge. For a bolder look, use two contrasting colors; for a blended gradient, include white between shades.
3. Dab the sponge across the tip of the nail, tilting slightly from left to right to blend the colors across the tip. Repeat on each nail, using different color combinations as desired.
4. Carefully remove the French tip guides and finish with a clear top coat to seal and smooth the design.

This sponge technique works with any color palette, so you can adapt the look for seasons and occasions beyond Valentine’s Day. Try bright neons, pastels, or classic black-and-white tips for different vibes.
