DIY Donut Elbow Patches: How to Sew Cute Patch Repairs

With November gone in a flash, it’s officially time to start sharing holiday ideas. While I ease into full-on Christmas mode over the coming weeks, here’s an easy, festive Cricut project that makes a perfect gift: donut elbow patches. If you liked the balloon and ice cream elbow patch projects, this donut version completes the trio with a playful, wearable twist. Follow the simple steps below to make your own.

Instructions:

  1. Open the donut project in Cricut Design Space and cut the donut and frosting shapes from your chosen iron-on materials. While cutting, try on the sweater and mark the elbow locations with a pin so your patches sit in the right spot.
  2. Carefully remove the excess iron-on from the clear backing so only the donut and frosting shapes remain.
  3. Position the donut shape (right side up, backing still attached) centered over the pinned spot, then remove the pin.
  4. Press the donut in place with your iron following the iron-on manufacturer’s recommended temperature and timing.
  5. Allow the patch to cool, then peel off the liner.
  6. Place the frosting layer on top of the donut, press again according to the iron-on instructions, let cool, and remove the liner. Your donut elbow patch is complete.
