Sugar Fix: Inside Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Story

The outside of jeni's ice cream

Los Angeles is excited to welcome Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, and Jeff and I stopped by to try the new Los Feliz location. We actually visited three times in one week — it’s that good. The shop’s design is as thoughtful as the ice cream is delicious. The menu features creative, well-balanced flavors that make it hard to choose a favorite. Standouts for us included the freshly made waffle cones, the salted caramel ice cream sandwich, and several signature flavors that showcase Jeni’s commitment to quality ingredients and inventive combinations.

Samantha, the Operations Manager at Studio DIY, is a devoted Jeni’s fan. If you need recommendations, try Samantha’s favorites: Buckeye State, Salty Caramel, Seven Layer Bar, and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries. Each flavor highlights Jeni’s knack for balancing bold tastes with subtle textures.

The Buckeye State flavor is especially memorable. It’s rich, nutty, and unmistakably indulgent — a nod to Ohio’s famous buckeye treats. For anyone who enjoys experimenting at home, Jeni’s offers cookbooks with recipes and techniques for making standout ice cream and frozen desserts. And if a scoop shop isn’t nearby, their pints are available for purchase online so you can enjoy Jeni’s at home.

The Los Feliz scoop shop is a welcoming neighborhood spot with thoughtful design details and a curated selection of pints and treats. Whether you’re grabbing a cone, trying a seasonal flavor, or picking up take-home pints, the experience feels warm and well crafted. The freshly made waffle cones are a must-try, and the salted caramel ice cream sandwich deserves a special mention for its perfect balance of sweet and salty.

On a lighter note: I almost walked off with a few framed prints and a neon sign, but left them for everyone else to enjoy. Also, my outfit details: the shirt is from a recent favorite shop and the pants are from Zara.
