I want to share one of the most joyful moments from a recent trip: a weekend getaway to The Saguaro in Palm Springs. Jeff and I partnered with the hotel for an anniversary escape that celebrated color and play, including a scavenger hunt across the desert. While the whole trip was a blast, one part of it became a true highlight for me: finding a legendary pink door I’d admired online for years.

If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest, you’ve probably seen that iconic pink door. It’s one of those images that sticks with you — bold, cheerful, and perfectly Palm Springs. Whenever I visit, I hope to stumble across it, but until this trip I never did. The concierge mentioned the historic neighborhood nearby where many of the area’s best mid-century homes sit, and I was determined: we were not leaving until we tracked it down.
We borrowed the hotel’s bikes and rode through streets filled with colorful homes and unique architectural details. We found lots of charming doors and facades — every shade and style — but not the pink one. Later, after a stop in town, I went into full sleuth mode. Finally, on an evening ride, there it was. I literally screamed with delight; the excitement startled a jogger passing by. We pulled over, grabbed a quick photo, and agreed to return the next morning for better light and a proper photoshoot.

We came back the next day — yes, with an outfit change — and spent a little more time admiring the house and its dreamy door. I may have been the one who dreamed about it the most, but Jeff’s smile in our photos shows he was genuinely happy too. Even better: after seeing how much joy that pink door brought me, Jeff agreed that our future home could have a pink door as well. Consider this a written reminder of that promise.

I’m grateful to Moises Esquenazi for renovating this home and giving the world one of the most delightful doors around. Seeing it in person was a small, colorful reminder of why travel and curiosity matter: a simple, joyful surprise can become a treasured memory.
