When I decided to turn The Honest Company headquarters into a gingerbread house for our Land of Nod event, it was largely because of a long-standing obsession with these bright, colorful ornaments. I wanted them everywhere. They look like giant gumballs, don’t they? Once I had them, it felt natural to wrap a few like oversized candies. We used them as table decor and hung them above the bar, and they also make delightful holiday favors. The process is simple and fast—here’s how to do it.
The saturated colors are the best part—you can mix and match shades to fit any palette.
Supplies:
Ornaments or Christmas bulbs (solid-color ornaments work best — the rainbow set I used is a favorite)
Cellophane wrap
Twine or ribbon
Step-by-step:
1. Cut a rectangle of cellophane that is wide enough to wrap around an ornament with about an inch or two overlap. Make it as long as you want the twisted ends of the “candy wrapper” to be.
2. Wrap the cellophane around the ornament so it’s snug and the overlap is secure.
3. Gather the cellophane at each side of the ornament and twist to create the wrapped-candy look. Tie each twisted end with twine or ribbon. If you want to hang the ornament while it’s wrapped, leave the ornament’s hanging string accessible before you tie the ends.
That’s it—finished! These wrapped ornaments are an easy, festive way to dress up favors for a holiday party or to add playful flair to your seasonal displays. A quick caution: avoid placing cellophane-wrapped ornaments directly next to hot lights, as cellophane and heat can be a poor combination.
