5 Creative Ways to Reuse Christmas Ornaments

Yesterday I shared a creative way to reuse Christmas bows, and today I’m sharing five fresh ideas for those ubiquitous Christmas bulb ornaments. This will be the first post in a new “Five things to do with…” series here, and what better way to kick it off than with holiday decor? If you have extra ornaments tucked away—or find yourself tempted during holiday shopping—don’t overcrowd the tree. Try one of these simple, stylish alternatives instead.

1. Centerpieces: Gather extra bulbs and arrange them in a clear glass vase, milk glass vessel, cloche or decorative bowl for an instant holiday centerpiece. It’s an easy, elegant way to add color and shine to a dining table, mantel or console without much effort.

2. Garland: String bulbs on a ribbon or twine and drape the strand across a fireplace mantel, over a window, along a stair railing or across a doorway. A simple ornament garland adds instant festive charm to any room.

3. Chandelier: Turn a cluster of ornaments into a sparkling chandelier for a covered porch, dining nook, or holiday party space. Suspended at varying lengths, the bulbs catch light beautifully and create a whimsical focal point.

4. Hot Cocoa Holders: For a playful party touch, repurpose shatterproof or sturdy ornaments as novelty hot cocoa holders or serving cups—perfect for themed gatherings or a fun photo-op. Use only ornaments that are safe and food-friendly for serving beverages.

5. Wreaths: Create a stunning entryway statement by gluing or wiring ornaments to a wreath form. A wreath made from bulbs reflects light and color, making a bold and cheerful welcome for guests.
