DIY Honeycomb Ornament Chandelier Ideas for Holiday Decor

Yesterday I shared details about the holiday crafting party I hosted in partnership with Martha Stewart Living, and today I’m walking you through how to make your own honeycomb ornament chandeliers. This was the featured craft at the party—a fresh, modern twist on a traditional ornament chandelier. They’re simple to assemble, look beautiful hung around the house for the season, and fold flat for easy storage when the holidays are over.

Supplies:
– Ornaments (the Martha Stewart Jingle Brights Collection was used here)
– Honeycomb balls (buy in bulk or individually)
– Fishing line
– Scissors

Instructions:
1. Cut lengths of fishing line a few feet long. Thread each piece through an ornament cap and knot it securely so the ornament hangs straight.
2. For the honeycombs, locate the small hole where the original string attaches. Remove the original string and carefully thread the fishing line through that hole, tying a secure knot.
3. Open the honeycomb decorations and use paper clips to hold them in their open position. Paper clips are ideal because they’re easy to remove later, allowing you to fold the honeycombs flat for storage.
4. Once all ornaments and honeycombs are strung, gather the hung pieces to form the chandelier shape you want. Adjust individual strands by sliding components up or down to lengthen or shorten their drop until the arrangement looks balanced.
5. When you’re happy with the overall shape, tie all the fishing lines together at the top with a secure knot. Leave the knot positioned a little less than a foot above the top ornament or honeycomb so the cluster hangs neatly.

Hanging options:
– Hang the finished chandelier on a wall or above a mantel using a Command hook for a temporary display.
– For a more dramatic effect, hang it from the ceiling above a dining table to serve as a seasonal chandelier.

This project creates a festive, modern centerpiece for holiday decorating. If you plan to host a crafting party, consider printing craft instruction cards for guests—along with invitations and recipe cards—to make the event even easier to run. I had a wonderful team helping me bring this to life; thank you to Marissa, Callie, Sarah, Chelsea, Leah and Amanda for joining the holiday crafting fun!

All of the products featured in this project were provided by the Martha Stewart Living team to celebrate the ‘Tis the Season of Doing holiday campaign at The Home Depot.
