Carlsbad Ranch Flower Fields: What to See, When to Visit

The sky

After weeks of nonstop studio work, Jeff and I finally took a day off and visited the ranunculus fields in Carlsbad. We had wanted to go for years and were thrilled to see the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch in person. Open to visitors each spring from March through mid-May, the fields stretch across acres of color and are far more impressive live than any photo can convey. If you’re nearby during the season, it’s well worth a visit.

While on site, we noticed a fantastic lemonade stand that’s a must-try. For dining options nearby, Café Topes was recommended but closes early in the afternoon, so we missed it on this trip. Instead, we crossed the street to the Carlsbad Chocolate Bar for chocolate-dipped treats — a delicious stop after wandering the fields.

Have you visited flower fields before? Whether local ranunculus fields or distant tulip farms, seeing rows of blooms in person is a memorable experience. I’ve always dreamed of visiting the tulip fields in the Netherlands, but the Carlsbad Flower Fields were a lovely substitute and a perfect spring outing for us.
