Get ready for New Year’s Eve with a show-stopping holographic manicure. We picked out an outfit, but the look isn’t complete without nails that sparkle and shift in the light. After testing plenty of polishes, foils, and adhesives, we landed on a reliable method that gives a true rainbow shine. Below you’ll find the supplies and a simple step-by-step tutorial, plus tips for a flawless finish.

Supplies Needed
Silver nail polish
Holographic foil
Foil adhesive (nail glue designed for foils)
Orange wood stick or similar tool
Clear top coat
Step-by-Step Tutorial

1. Apply a thin, even coat of silver polish to all nails and allow it to dry completely. The silver base helps any imperfect foil application blend seamlessly.
2. Cut small pieces of holographic foil to roughly the width and length of each nail.
3. Paint a thin coat of foil adhesive over one hand at a time. Wait 30–60 seconds for the glue to become tacky.
4. Place the foil piece over the nail with the shiny side facing up. Gently press the foil into the adhesive using an orange wood stick or similar tool — avoid pressing too hard to prevent scratching the foil. Carefully peel away the excess foil. Repeat for each nail.
5. Seal the look with a thin layer of clear top coat to protect the foil and add shine.

Quick tips: work one hand at a time so the adhesive stays tacky, and use small foil pieces for better control around the cuticle and sidewalls. If a foil edge lifts, press it back down gently and reapply a tiny bit of adhesive if needed. A final top coat not only adds gloss but also helps the foil last longer.
