Continuing with another simple storage DIY, I transformed plain acrylic boxes into cheerful pom pom storage containers. These clear boxes are great for storing cotton balls, q-tips, paper clips, washi tape and small craft supplies while keeping everything visible. I wanted to retain the clear base so contents remain easy to spot, and gave only the lids a colorful, textured update with pom poms for a playful pop.

DIY Pom Pom Storage Boxes
Total Time: 1 Hour (plus dry time)
Supplies
Acrylic storage boxes
Pom poms (or yarn and a pom pom maker to make your own)
White craft paint
High-gloss decoupage or sealer
Paint brush
Strong craft adhesive (such as E6000)
Directions
1. Clean the lid to remove dust and fingerprints. Paint the top and sides of the lid with a thin, even coat of white craft paint. Allow it to dry fully.
2. Apply additional coats of white paint until the finish is opaque and streak-free, allowing each coat to dry completely before the next. Two to three coats usually do the trick.
3. Seal the painted lid with a coat of high-gloss decoupage or sealer. Be thorough so the paint adheres well and resists chipping. Let it dry and apply a second sealer coat for durability. Allow the sealer to cure completely.
4. If you prefer handmade pom poms, make them now using yarn and a pom pom maker, or use pre-made pom poms. Choose colors and sizes you like.
5. Attach a pom pom to the center of each lid using a small amount of strong craft adhesive. Press and hold for 30–60 seconds, then set the lid aside to let the glue cure according to the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
