We may eventually run out of fruit costume ideas (remember the pineapple, strawberry, and citrus slice costumes), but today is not that day. This DIY banana costume is one of the simplest and most effective costumes you can make. All you really need is a yellow pencil skirt and a few craft foam pieces—seriously, it’s that easy.

Supplies Needed
- Yellow craft foam
- White craft foam
- Hot glue gun
- Plain white shirt
- Yellow pencil skirt
- Yellow shoes (optional)

Step-by-Step Banana Costume Tutorial
- Draw and cut four peel-shaped pieces from the yellow craft foam. Aim for long, tapered shapes that resemble banana peels.
- Use the yellow foam pieces as templates to trace and cut four matching pieces from the white craft foam.
- Glue each yellow peel to a white peel using the hot glue gun so the white side faces inward and creates a subtle contrast at the edges.
- Put on a white shirt and the yellow pencil skirt. Tuck the foam peels into the top of the skirt, arranging them around your hips so they look like banana peels peeling away. If you want extra security, fasten the foam to the skirt or to an inner waistband with a couple of safety pins or small stitches.

That’s it—simple, playful, and instantly recognizable. The layered foam gives the costume a lightweight, wearable shape without bulky sewing or complicated construction. Pair it with yellow shoes and a bright attitude, and you’re ready to go.
