DIY Lemon Photo Booth Ideas for Bright, Summery Photos

This summer Starbucks is featuring six Frappuccino Fan Flavors, and I was invited to create a world inspired by my favorite: Lemon Bar. Bright, tart lemon meets smooth vanilla for a truly lemon-forward treat. If you love the idea of lemons taking center stage, host a tropical lemon-themed party and set up a bold yellow photo booth. It’s simple to pull together, looks amazing in photos, and is perfect for sharing on social. Here are three easy DIY prop ideas to build your own lemon photo booth—yellow wig and citrus lips optional.

DIY Lemon Sunglasses

We began with a yellow seamless backdrop mounted on a stand, but yellow fabric works just as well. Once the background was in place, we focused on playful props to complete the look.

DIY Lemon Sunglasses

The easiest props are often the most effective—functionality isn’t required. For quick lemon sunglasses, print lemon slice cutouts, trim them, and attach them to round sunglasses with painter’s tape for instant, Instagram-ready props.

DIY Lemon Slice Wheels

Turn an old bike into a statement prop by adding lemon slice wheels. Follow these simple steps to make a dramatic, photo-ready effect.

Supplies:
Yellow mat board
White poster board
Yellow poster board
Spray adhesive
Craft knife or scissors
A bike

Steps:
1. Cut two circles from the yellow mat board to match your bike tires.
2. Cut two slightly smaller white circles—about 4″ smaller in diameter—then layer them over the yellow circles.
3. Cut eight wedges from yellow poster board, curving each piece so it resembles a lemon segment.
4. Use spray adhesive to attach the white circles to the yellow bases, then glue the yellow wedges on top in a radial pattern.
5. Cut a slit from the outer edge to the center between two wedges so the finished circle can slip over the wheel. Cut a 3″ hole in the center through both layers.
6. Lay the bike down in the booth, slip the lemon slices over each wheel, and stand the bike back up. The wheels may roll slightly, but the effect is ideal for photos rather than riding.

DIY Lemon Wedge Piñata

We transformed a watermelon-shaped piñata into a giant lemon wedge using spray paint and poster board. You can adapt this shortcut or build a wedge-shaped piñata from scratch using standard papier-mâché techniques.

Supplies:
Watermelon-shaped piñata (or a wedge-shaped base you create)
White spray paint
Yellow spray paint
Yellow poster board
Rubber cement

Steps:
1. Remove the tissue fringe from the watermelon piñata to reveal the cardboard wedge form underneath.
2. Lay the piñata on its side and spray one flat face white. Spray the curved rind edge yellow, blending slightly where the white meets the yellow. Allow to dry and repeat if needed for full coverage.
3. Flip the wedge and repeat on the other face so both sides are white with a yellow rind edge. Let dry completely.
4. Add paper details or glued poster-board segments along the white face to mimic lemon texture, if desired. Use rubber cement for secure adhesion.
