Keep the glue gun on a low setting, avoid pressing the tip directly against the balloon, and use small amounts of glue. I applied roughly one-inch lines every six inches. Excess glue adds weight and can reduce float time.
How to make burger balloons:
1. Inflate the yellow mylar balloon with helium. Cut a strip of brown tissue paper about 2 inches tall and long enough to wrap around the balloon. Give the top or bottom edge a slightly wavy cut to mimic a bun. If your tissue is small, use two strips to complete the wrap. Apply small lines of low-temp hot glue about a half inch below the balloon seam and press the brown paper around the balloon.
2. Cut a 1.5-inch strip of green tissue paper with a more pronounced wavy edge to resemble lettuce. Attach this layer slightly above the brown layer using glue dots so it looks tucked between the bun layers.
3. Cut small circles or ovals from red tissue paper to represent tomato slices and stick them between the green and brown layers with glue dots.
4. To make the balloons float in a horizontal, burger-like orientation, secure the ribbon to the bottom of the balloon with clear shipping tape. Use strong, clear shipping tape rather than decorative washi so the ribbon stays attached and the tape remains unobtrusive.
