I’m excited to launch a new baby name series today. We received many wonderful submissions and will work through as many as we can. Even if we don’t address your submission directly, we hope you find inspiration from other entries with a similar style or preference.
When I say “we,” I mean myself and my close friend Lauren. We’ve had a lot of fun helping family and friends pick names, and our baby name posts have consistently been among the most popular on the blog. Lauren and I will brainstorm the initial lists based on the submissions we receive, then invite the community to share more ideas in the comments.
After we post suggestions, we’d love for you to add any names that fit the description in the comments below—let’s help each other out and make this fun for expectant parents!
Now, let’s dive into our first baby name request from Annie M.

Annie M has a daughter named Emerson Jane. She doesn’t yet know whether this next baby will be a boy or a girl, and she already has a boy name picked out. She’s struggling to find a girl name she truly loves. Here’s what she shared:
We don’t know what we’re having next month, but we have a boy name we love. We’re stuck on girl names. I remember reading that my name style fits “last names as first names,” and many names in that category appeal to me—but none feel like the one for a girl. I don’t want something overly popular or overly made-up; I’d like something balanced and distinctive.
Here are our suggestions for last names that work well as first names for girls.
