This playful s’mores dog costume was created mostly for the pun “Less is S’more,” but it’s also genuinely simple and adorable. With just a few basic supplies and a hot glue gun, you can make a cozy, lightweight costume that’s perfect for photos, Halloween, or a festive walk. It’s quick to assemble, easy to adjust for fit, and gets lots of smiles.

S'mores costume materials

Materials:

  • White dog shirt (base layer)
  • Cardboard (two squares)
  • Brown felt (for the chocolate layer)
  • Hot glue (and glue gun)
  • Scissors
  • Elastic (optional; helpful for larger dogs)

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Cut two squares from cardboard. Make the bottom square smaller than the top so the dog can walk without the cardboard hitting their legs. Trimming the lower piece helped keep the costume comfortable while maintaining the look.
  2. Cut brown felt into a chocolate “drip” shape. The felt panel should be roughly the same length as the shirt so it hangs nicely and looks like melted chocolate on the s’more.
  3. Use hot glue to attach the brown felt to the white shirt. Then glue one cardboard square to the top edge of the felt and the other cardboard square to the bottom edge of the shirt. Try the costume on your dog and trim the cardboard as needed for comfort. For larger dogs, consider gluing the cardboard to a strip of elastic and slipping it over the dog’s back — this can make fitting easier when the cardboard pieces are larger.

Bella wasn’t exactly thrilled to model the costume, but she looked irresistible in it. This design keeps the costume lightweight and unobtrusive so most dogs tolerate it for photos or short outings.

Important safety note: never feed chocolate to dogs. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, so keep the costume materials strictly felt and cardboard — no real chocolate near your pet.

If you enjoyed this idea, try pairing it with other simple costume concepts like themed milkshake outfits for couples or friends — simple layers and creative cutouts go a long way.
